One last fun post before School starts; I do have book reviews scheduled – honest!
I was looking at my header images on the blog, and wondering if I should update them… Obviously, they’re cut down from larger photos to fit. I have six current ones, which are randomised to appear with each refresh of my home page.
This was my original that I used all the way from the moment I moved my blog from Blogger to WP. Moody in black and white, each of the books in this photo got five stars from me.
Next I added my Folio Society collection of Andrew Lang’s Fairy Books – the full rainbow. I really ought to retake this photo. It’s even more blurry when enlarged on the header.
Next came my Beryl Bainbridge collection, added for my first BBRW in 2012.
In 2020 I added one for my first Paul Auster Reading Week, which gives me the opportunity to re-plug the forthcoming second Auster Reading Week from 3-10 Feb. I should update this photo too, as I can add Baumgartner to my collection.
And finally, the header I added after my first Nordic FINDS month in Jan 2022 – all the books and films I read and watched for it.
I used to have one more, with one of my book poems in – stacks of books whose titles read together could be a poem. But it cropped the ends off so I deleted it. I’m happy staying with these five for now! I hope you’ve enjoyed this diversion.
The Lang Fairy Books are so beautiful all together! It looks pretty good as it is, but I understand being frustrated when something is blurry.
An interesting topic, Annabel. However, am I the only WordPress blogger who generally views other bloggers’ posts using the Jetpack Reader option? I scarcely view blogs these days using the standard website view.
I too have/had several bookish Header images but haven’t addressed their presence in a while, and wonder if just one consistent image will do.
See what you’re missing! 😀 Personally, I don’t use a reader, never have, I go via everyone’s home pages via a list of links, but I’m probably in a minority these days.
Ah, I can see the changing header images if I go directly to annabookbel.net and refresh, but not if I click on an individual post (like this one). Curious . . .
If you track multiple blogs it’s so much easier to use a Reader than get email alerts. The one I prefer is Feedly.
I feel a little old-fashioned, but I do like to see how a post is laid out on the blog itself (using my laptop/workstation, not phone), and I’m contributing directly to the stats.
Not the only, I love Jetpack but I clicked the world icon to see the website on the phone, and refreshed to see her different headings, LOL! It was fun.
They’re all lovely images Annabel! I struggle a bit with my blog because my template is so old, and if I mess with it too often it loses all the sidebar. Also I have a limited size which I can use so I’m probably stuck with what I currently have. I’ve also tended to switch to the reader recently, simply because for some reason I stopped getting email notifications when the bloggers I follow posted. I think this may be something to do with my email provider rather that WP, because I subscribed to your blog as a test using my KBR email and they come through. Very annoying, but I haven’t got the energy to try to sort it out right now. But I do come to your blog to see your posts, so I will see the headers!
Thank you Karen! I don’t subscribe to very many to avoid clogging up my inbox, receiving fewer emails and thus saving infinitesimal amounts of energy – which will add up. I have a folder on my toolbar with all those I would subscribe to instead and visit periodically, plus my blog roll on the side bar of course.
