I’m over at Shiny New Books today with my review of the latest novel by Patrick deWitt.

In Dodge City, deWitt takes on the wonderful American trope of the road trip, set in 1967 at the time of the Vietnam draft, and running alongside protagonist Lee’s trip across the USA is a superb family drama as he visits his folks along the way. This effectively creates a state of the nation novel of that time.
Told with wit, heart and gentleness, this is one to savour. While it can’t beat The Sisters Brothers, it edged it’s way into second place if I were to rank my reads by him.
