It struck me, as I toured the planning posts that many of you have done, showcasing your picks for #20BOS26, that there was one book that cropped up on so many lists…
Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke
I’ve been definitely planning to include it in my reading this summer too. So how about we make it the challenge’s ‘Buddy Read‘ for July. It’s the most-hyped book of the season, having garnered column inches by the yard already for its time-travelling take on being a ‘tradwife’.
It’s definitely a discussion-provoking choice, if not a marmite one, so let’s aim to post our reviews in July, and I’ll gather them into one post for more discussion between us in early August. Are you in?
Can we also try to keep our reviews spoiler-free if possible – then we can let rip on the discussion post perhaps which I’ll headline as not spoiler-free!
I don’t know about you, but I kind of enjoy reading these hyped books to see if I’ll love or hate them – often a bit of both – but I’m always prepared to be pleasantly surprised – see my reviews of:
- The Names by Florence Knapp
- Yellowface by R F Kuang
- A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

This is a lovely idea and I completely agree that it sounds like the kind of read that will lead to lots of discussions. As it seems to be a book with a bit of a love/hate divide I’m planning to either borrow it via the library or get the ebook if it goes on offer. The library queue is massive but if I manage to grab the ebook in time I’ll be sure to join in 😊 and if I don’t I’ll still make sure I check out some of the posts.
I am fascinated by the premise of this book, but I’ll have to wait until the library catches up with the hype. I was listening to the Curious Readers podcast doing a ‘deep dive’ into it, but they got to the point where they weren’t able to discuss it without revealing something vital that is best not to know about beforehand, so I had to stop listening. I do have The Names on my 20 Books List, though, so I’ll try to remember to look back at what you thought of it after I’ve read it.
Hope you love The Names. (that encapsulates what I thought of it! 😀 )
I think this is a brilliant choice for the buddy read – there’s a lot going on and all of it elicits opinions from the reader. I will be following the discussion with avid curiosity!
