Shiny Linkiness

Today over at Shiny New Books is my review of the wonderful third novel from Natasha Pulley:

The Lost Future of Pepperharrow

Lost future of pepperharrow natasha pulley

Pulley’s third novel revisits the characters of her first, The Watchmaker of Filigree Street (reviewed here) and takes them back to Japan in the late 1880s, where the clairvoyant Keita Mori will be at the centre of things once again.

Pulley blends adventure with romance and history, science with the supernatural to give us a standalone (although I’d recommend you read Watchmaker first) novel that fizzes with electricity – literally! Superb.

And from a couple of weeks ago…

A Long Way Off by Pascal Garnier

Translated by Emily Boyce

This is the final one of Garnier’s brilliantly dark novellas full of black humour, published in France shortly before he died in 2010. Gallic Books have now translated all 12 of his noirs. This was the fourth I’ve read so far and I enjoyed them all. This last one though, which features a road trip that goes very wrong indeed, is a cracker.

They’re all novella length so quick reads, and full of dark humour and ordinary people driven to do grotesque things! I love them.

Hello Annabel! I may have commented on your Lost Future review on SNB – twice – or I may not. I’m not sure! But I liked the review very much. I enjoyed NP’s first novel but I thought her second one was a real cracker. And it was as if she’d read my mind about all the things I thought a bit weak in the first book and dealt with them. This sounds fun too!

I think the second one was outstanding. This one is completely bonkers, but I loved it. I really want my own Katsu.

Sorry – we had a plug in compatibility issue which was losing comments – sorted now.
