#NordicFINDS23 – Wrap Up

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who joined in with some Nordic reads for January – I hope you found some new gems from the FINDS countries.

I managed six books and am just finishing a seventh, which will make one each from Iceland, Norway and Sweden, and two from Denmark and Finland. Again, I tried to vary my reading, covering two outstanding modern classics (Vesaas and Jansson), two brilliant more recent novels (Helle and Thorsson) in addition to the three very different Nordic Noir/Scandi Crime ones: a gorefest from Denmark, a less gory rural crime from Sweden and an historical crime novel from Finland.

I have a Nordic Reading home on a separate page under my Projects tab above – click here. I’ve added all your reviews from this year and last to my own Nordic reading as a resource for ideas for reading from these countries.

I’m still collecting your links if you’ve yet to review – just link to this page below or the original announcement page which I’ve now made unsticky, and I’ll find them and add to the main list.

January seems a particularly good time for Nordic Reading – and now I think it’ll become a regular feature at AnnaBookBel. Here’s to January 2024!

I have one more review still to write Annabel – just wasn’t organised enough – so hope to link it up today. Thanks again for a great month, I do enjoy the lift it gives in January.

I’m preparing a review of some Hans Christian Andersen tales as my Denmark read but that won’t be up for a few days yet, though I’ll be sure to link it when it’s posted! Thank you again for running this, a great ‘wintry’ focus for the start of the year – this time I’ll have read one from all FINDS countries bar Finland. 🙂

Well done Chris. Thank you for supporting the reading month. I find it fits so well with the time of year. I hope to turn my focus towards other challenges for Feb – Japan and Indies.

Thank you for hosting this interesting challenge. It is interesting for me to see what Nordic authors you have discovered. More than me, I think. I have reviewed Finland/Iceland/Norway so far (links below). The Danish one I am giving up ‘Silence in October’ by Jens Christian Gröndahl, it does not appeal to me. I am reading my Swedish choice (also recommended by some of you), ‘The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald (review to come when I finished it. Very comforting read. Hear my reviews.

Finland – They Know Not What They Do by Jussi Valtonen – https://www.thecontentreader.com/post/finds-finland-they-know-not-what-they-do-by-jussi-valtonen

Iceland – Cold as Hell (1st Áróra series) by Lilja Sigurdadottir – https://www.thecontentreader.com/post/finds-iceland-cold-as-hell-by-lilja-sigur%C3%B0ard%C3%B3ttir

Norway – The Ice Palace by Tarjej Vesaas – https://www.thecontentreader.com/post/finds-norway-the-ice-palace-by-tarjei-vesaas

I have enjoyed reading your reviews and some of the authors have gone onto my reading list.

Hi Annabel, thanks so much for hosting this again in 2023. I failed so spectacularly last year that I took part this year by stealth. And it worked! I managed to read one book from each country and will try and write up my reviews, either separately or in one post, and link them here as soon as practicable. It’s been a great opportunity to read books I’ve been meaning to get to and has been a fun challenge, so thank you!
