I nearly always fail when I set resolutions, so no reading resolutions for 2018. Instead, I shall have reading ‘try harders’.
In 2018, I will try harder to read:
- From my TBR – I own more books than I have time to read before I die!
- From my TBR – I need to save money. I will buy fewer books – especially hardbacks.
- From my TBR – which is stuffed with lots of great books in translation – from Europe and beyond.
- From my TBR – which also has tons of good non-fiction which I increasingly enjoy.
And as I need the space…
- When I have read a book, I will be more choosy about those I keep.
- I will continue to gently prune my library.
Obviously I will still read review copies and have to buy some Book Group reads and I’m sure I will succumb to buying some other books, However, I’m hoping that by having these ‘try harder’ thoughts to nudge me, that I will be able to embody the general principles of the TBR Dare, which we didn’t set up formally this year, and extend that further as a reading way of life.
Good luck! I hope you have some great reading in 2018 x
Thank you Cathy. I hope your reading plans go well too. Happy New Year. x
Happy New Yea and all the best with your ‘try harders’! 🎈
I just felt that resolutions are just too concrete, if you get what I mean! 🙂
A very happy 2018 to you, too, Ananbel.
Happy New Year, Annabel! I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog (and Shiny New Books), long may they continue!
Sounds like a manifesto for my 2018, Annabel. I may have to crib your post with the addition of a cunning plan on how I’m going to achieve it – it involves a cookie jar with a difference. More to follow.
Happy reading in 2018.
Feel free! Happy Reading to you too.
Hi Teasel, thank you.
“May your year be a good one in life and books.” Same to you. As far as books go, my Librarything collection suggests I had a disappointing end to 2017, with top star ratings rare in the latter part of the year.
Happy New Year.
I think the latter half of the year tends to get more of the hyped stuff with all the prizes etc. Let’s hope that you find some great books to start the year with. Happy New Year.
Happy new year Annabel! I think that the “try harder” concept is a great one. I really think perhaps I should attempt to apply it myself…. 😉
That applies to me to re self! 🙂
Yes, yes, yes to all of the above. I need to try harder as well. Good luck!
Your ‘try harder’ list is similar to mine. I’m aiming to restrict book buying and chip away at the unread books – books should be read, not left on shelves. I’m viewing it as a kind of recycling project, which may also save money. Good luck with your efforts!
Good luck with yours too Chris. I do like having shelves of books to select from – I just don’t need quite so many!
