20 Books of Summer

This year, rather than do Book Bingo, I’m going to join in with Cathy of 746 Books and do the 20 Books of Summer challenge.

I’ve chosen my 20 books. All are books I’ve acquired, not review copies. I make no apology for none of them being chunky – but choosing slimmer volumes, it might just be achievable, and some of them have been in my TBR for years. Here they are (with Harry, who grumbled when I moved him over!) and listed beneath the photo in alphabetical order.

Ablutions by Patrick de Witt – (2) Review

After me Comes the Flood by Sarah Perry

Beatlebone by Kevin Barry (11) Review

The Children’s Home by Charles Lambert

Crazy Pavements by Beverley Nichols (8) Review

Dept of Speculation by Jenny Offill (6) Review

Die a Little by Megan Abbott

The Dresser by Beryl Bainbridge

Duffy by Dan Kavanagh

Eminent Hipsters by Donald Fagen  (4) Review

Equilateral by Ken Kalfus – (1) Review

Forgetting Zoe by Ray Robinson – (5) Review

In a Lonely Place by Dorothy B Hughes

Orkney by Amy Sackville

Paulina and Fran by Rachel B Glaser

The Slaves of Solitude by Patrick Hamilton

Swimming Home by Deborah Levy (10) Review

The Translation of the Bones by Francesca Kay (9) Review

Truth or Fiction by Jennifer Johnston (7) Review

Weight by Jeanette Winterson – (3) Review

I’m not sure Harry approves of your choices (or perhaps he wants to keep them all to himself?), but there are a few in there that I’ve been meaning to read as well: Deborah Levy, Beatlebone, Beryl Bainbridge, Francesca Kay.

    • AnnaBookBel says:

The Kalfus has such a great premise. I should have read it before. Looking forward to it now.

Great choices and cute cat! Thanks for taking part. I’m a big Kevin Barry fan but haven’t read Beatlebone. Look foward to hearing what you think!

    • AnnaBookBel says:

Thanks Cathy. I’ve shied away from your 20 books previously, but I so need to tackle my TBR… Haven’t read Barry, but I know Beatlebone has had good reviews.

    • AnnaBookBel says:

I don’t know why I haven’t read that Bainbridge – so I shall fill in a gap – and reduce the TBR.

Some great choices! Equilateral is one of my favourite reads of the last few years and has turned me into a die-hard Kalfus fan. And I loved Charles Lambert’s The Children House too. Have a great summer of reading!

  4. JacquiWine says:

A really interesting and diverse list. I’m delighted to see The Slaves in Solitude and the Dorothy B. Hughes in your pile. You can’t go wrong there. Happy reading!
